ANIMATED CHRISTMAS TREE
Tutorial For PSP 7

Here is the animated Christmas tree you will be making. Animated Christmas Tree Tut

Here are the files you will need.

Paint Shop Pro - If you don't have it download a free trial here:
The Christmas Tree.psp and Stars: (Red, Blue, Green and Yellow)

 

(1) Open up your 'Christmas tree.psp' in Paint Shop Pro.

Make a duplicate layer by R-clicking on the Layer in the 'Layer Pallet' and choosing 'Duplicate'. Make another 'Duplicate' of the original layer in the same manner. Make one more 'Duplicate' Layer of the original. You should now have 4 layers, one for each color bulb on your tree.

 

(2) Rename each layer by R-clicking on each layer and writing in the names Green, Red, Yellow and Blue.

 

FIRST LAYER GREEN

(3) Place an X on the Red, Yellow and Blue Layer's Visibility Glasses and select the Green Layer to work on.

 

(4) Bring up the Green Star.

 

(5) 'Resize' it 50%. If you want smaller lights on your tree then resize to your liking. It would be best if the stars are all the same size.

(6) 'Sharpen' it once with the 'Sharpen Tool'.

 

(7) 'Copy' the Star.

 

(8) 'Paste as a New Layer' on the tree.

Slide it over and center it on a Green bulb to make it look like it is lit.

 

(9) Choose 'File', 'Save Copy As:' and name it 'frame 1'. Save often!

NOTE: You will need to rewrite the name each time or click on the name (frame 1) each time you save it. Be careful with this step, as it does not save the name automatically using this type of Save!

 

(10) Continue repeating Step 7 until all the Green bulbs are covered.

 

Save one last time as 'Save Copy As: frame 1'

SECOND LAYER RED

Place an X over the 'Layer Visibility Glasses' on 'Layer Green' and remove the X on the 'Red Layer's Visibility Glasses'. Select the Red Layer!

Repeat Steps 4 through 10 with the 'Red' star covering all the Red bulbs. Save Copy As: 'frame 2'.

When finished Save one final time as 'Save Copy As: frame 2'

THIRD LAYER YELLOW

Place an X over the 'Layer Visibility Glasses' on 'Layer Red' and remove the X on the 'Yellow Layer's Visibility Glasses'. Select the Yellow Layer!

Repeat steps 4 through 10 with the 'Yellow' star covering all the Yellow bulbs. Save Copy As: 'frame 3'.

When finished Save one final time as 'Save Copy As: frame 3'

FOURTH LAYER BLUE

Place an X over the 'Layer Visibility Glasses' on 'Layer Yellow' and remove the X on the 'Blue Layer's Visibility Glasses'. Select the Blue Layer!

Repeat steps 4 through 10 with the 'Blue' star covering all the Blue bulbs. Save Copy As: 'frame 4'.

When finished Save one final time as 'Save Copy As: frame 4'.

 

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
You are now ready to animate your Christmas tree!
